The SLK32 AMG has been underestimated for years, but it's a lot quicker than most realize. It's no torque monster like the E55 AMG, but the SLK32 AMG was the first AMG tuned car to be equipped with a supercharged engine. The 3.2 liter V6 engine made 349 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque from the factory, which made it pretty quick off the line since it only weighs in at about 3,200lbs. Since it was only produced from 2001-2004, the SLK32 AMG is relatively a rare car and slowly being sought after by car collectors for this reason.
This well maintained SLK32 AMG was brought in to have the supercharger oil replaced. The supercharger on these engines are made by Eaton and contain oil inside to lubricate and cool the internal components of the supercharger. The oil inside the supercharger gets old and dirty, some of it even evaporates over time. For that reason it's recommended to change the superchager oil to prolong the life of the supercharger. Most owners aren't aware of the importance of this maintenance either, so theres a good chance the supercharger oil was never changed by the previous owner either.

This W204 C63 AMG was brought in to have a set of H&R sport lowering springs installed. H&R Springs has been around for many years and has been proven to be one of the most trusted suspension companies in the automotive industry both on and off the track. The set of H&R springs installed on this C63 AMG lower the car about 1.5"-2" in the front and the rear. In addition to the more aggressive look, the lowering springs lower the center of gravity to reduce body roll through turns and curves. The springs are engineered to have the correct spring rate which gives the car high performance handling without sacrificing the ride quality at all. Priced right around $300 for the set, these springs offer great performance and looks for a very reasonable price.
The installation of the H&R lowering springs is pretty straight forward if you've installed springs before. The front struts are removed from the car and then a spring compressor tool is fitted, so that you can compress the spring enough to safely remove the nut holding the top spring plate to the top of the strut assembly. Once you have safely removed the top plate, the stock spring should be loose and slide right off the strut. The new H&R lowering spring can then be installed onto the strut in the reverse order and will look like this before finally installing the strut assembly with new spring back onto the car.
The rear lowering springs are installed without the use of the spring compressor. Instead the lower control arm is disconnected and slowly uncompressed to release the rear suspension springs as seen in the picture below.
Once released and removed from the car, you can see the height difference between the lowering springs from H&R and the stock spring removed from the car. It's not a huge difference, but just enough to get the car to a nice ride height.
With the new H&R sport lowering springs installed the car sits noticeably lower, but not too much to cause any issues going over speed bumps, or into driveways. In addition to giving the car a better look, it also handles a lot better with the reduced body roll all while still keeping the same stock ride quality. Sometimes when installing lowering springs you can experience a stiff or uncomfortable ride, but H&R springs have been known to offer a comfortable ride and great performance due to their design and use of quality materials. If you're looking to lower your AMG without coil overs or breaking the bank, contact AMG Doctor today so we can locate and install the correct springs for your car and application.
]]>This one took a little longer than expected but it was worth the extra time and money to finish this project off right. It's a 2017 Designo Diamond White C63s coupe, but was upgraded with the 2019+ Panamericana grille so the car looks brand new. The exterior was also customized with a carbon fiber front lip, carbon rear diffuser, and trunk spoiler to tie everything together. The car's suspension has also been modified with a set of H&R springs which has lowered the car approximately 0.8". Subtle but just enough to visually notice the difference from stock height. The springs also made a noticeable difference in performance handling combined with the engine's Dynamic/Active Engine Mounts. The car still retains the factory dynamic suspension as well, with all of the adjustable dampening settings to stiffen or soften your ride from the push of a button.
The interior of this car is full of highly desired options like the AMG performance seats, carbon fiber package, and its hard to miss the carbon fiber steering wheel that has been installed too. With all of this carbon fiber and the racing seats there's no doubt you're in the cockpit of one fast AMG.
The factory M177 engine puts out 503hp and 516ft-lbs or torque which is already pretty quick for a stock car. Stock isn't good enough for AMG Doctor so a stage 2 Race IQ ECU tune was installed along with a set of down pipes to give this AMG coupe the extra horsepower it needs to rarely lose to anyone on the streets. Because this C63 is the "s" model it comes equipped with the "Race Mode" and "Race Start" features which really unleashes all of the power. The down pipes and tune put the power levels at around 640hp and 660ft-lbs of torque. The AMG Performance Exhaust combined with these modifications gives this C63s one of the meanest growls. The car is as fast as it looks and gets respect wherever it goes. Whoever the new owner is going to be, will love everything about this car.

This Designo Diamond White C63s AMG is already one of a kind, but with a few cosmetic modifications you can make any AMG stand out from the rest. We decided to upgrade this AMG with a carbon fiber steering wheel, carbon fiber front lip, rear diffuser, and a larger trunk spoiler to finish it off.
This C63s comes equipped with the highly desired carbon fiber interior trim. To match and add to the value of the interior, we installed this full carbon fiber steering wheel, complete with carbon fiber trim and paddle shifters. As the part of the car you see, touch, and use the most, the steering wheel is the what connects you to your AMG. Why not add value to the interior of your AMG? Especially if it looks this good!
Moving to the exterior of the car, the carbon fiber front lip looks pretty aggressive with the winged tips and stacked center section. The center section of this carbon fiber lip is detachable, but we chose to keep it stacked up for a more aggressive look.
The rear diffuser this C63s came from the factory with is a bit of a disappointment. Especially once we installed the carbon fiber front lip. The rear of the car looked like it was lacking something, like people you see working out their arms all day at the gym, but never their legs. To balance things out, we installed a 3-fin carbon fiber rear diffuser. The fitment wasn’t perfect, but with some patience we were able to finesse the rear diffuser to fit properly.
Things are starting to finally come together, but one thing is left, the trunk spoiler! Originally we couldn’t decide which spoiler we liked more so we tried on both. They both looked great on the car and it was a hard decision, but the second spoiler looked a little better so we decided to use this one for now. Don’t be surprised if we switch to the other one though.
Now that the carbon fiber is all done and installed, the next project will be installing the H&R lowering springs for a lower center of gravity and less wheel gap. So make sure you don’t miss the next blog post for that. To be continued...
]]>The Airmatic suspension system is a great feature found on many AMG and Mercedes. It allows you to raise the height of the vehicle in the front and rear by the press of a button for increased ground clearance. It's a pretty complex self-leveling system that was intricately designed to always adapt and stay level no matter how many passengers or how much cargo the vehicle is carrying. The Airmatic struts are self-dampening and can quickly adjust to the many different road conditions you experience while driving on and off the race track. Both the dampening and stiffness of the Airmatic struts can also be manually adjusted from inside the vehicle, to drastically change the handling characteristics. Drivers have the ability to enjoy a comfortable luxurious ride, which Mercedes are traditionally known for. But at the press of a button you can adjust the suspension to be stiffer, to significantly reduce the body roll of the vehicle for a night at the track or a weekend run through the canyons. It's the best of both worlds and why the Airmatic system is used in so many AMG and Mercedes models.
Although this system is great with it's adjustable features, it's also commonly known to fail and deflate the struts on all Airmatic equipped vehicles at some given point. Unfortunately it's not a recall item and is considered part of regular maintenance. This can be an expensive repair and nobody wants to pay for the same thing twice. In this video AMG Doctor shows you why we prefer to use the Airmatic struts manufactured by Bilstein instead of the cheaper alternative manufactured by Arnott. We still offer all of our customers both options when repairing your Airmatic suspension, but we want to show you the main difference between the two so you don't have to spend twice as much money in the long run.
]]>Did you know a lot of your car’s performance is governed and limited by the Mercedes ECU(Engine Control Unit)? Similar to tuning an instrument to make the perfect sound, it’s possible to tune the ECU of your AMG or Mercedes. An ECU tune will produce a noticeable gain in horsepower and torque, as well as increase the engines overall efficiency or fuel economy.
What is adjusted in an AMG or Mercedes ECU tune? There are many different parameters adjusted to successfully tune the ECU. Some of the main parameters adjusted are the ignition timing, fuel trims, and the air/fuel ratio. Through years of research tuners have figured out how to recode your car’s ECU so you can enjoy more performance with an increase in power and torque. Even if you have a Mercedes and would rather have better fuel economy, tuners can modify the fuel trims and other parameters to achieve this. As a result this increases your gas mileage which will save you more money in the long run.
AMG owners can tune the ECU of a stock car without any prior modifications, to unlock additional power and torque. If you do install other supporting engine modifications to the AMG such as headers or downpipes, you can expect an even greater increase in power when paired with an ECU tune. Most cars will easily see an increase of at least 15-20%. Once you start installing aftermarket performance parts on your AMG it’s very important to make sure you have a quality ECU tune to go with these new modifications. The car will start and run with your new performance parts, but without the proper ECU tune, your car will run like shit, throw check engine lights, and possibly blow your engine. The air/fuel ratio is one of the most important focuses when it comes to tuning any car. By adding performance parts to the engine you are increasing the air flow in and out of your engine. The ECU is designed to adjust some of the parameters like fuel trims and ignition timing as needed, but it can only account for a small difference in air flow. Without properly modifying the ignition timing and fuel trims with an ECU tune, it can cause the air/fuel ratio to become dangerously incorrect which can result in a catasrphic engine failure. This is how many people end up with blown engines. Lack of ECU tuning or incorrect ECU tuning.
It’s important to choose a tuning company what is known in the community and has also proven themselves to know what they're doing. You get what you pay for, and when it comes to the ECU of your engine you shouldn't sacrifice the quality of the tune. That’s why we strive to bring you the best products available on the market. Including the best AMG and Mercedes ECU tunes, created and written by some of the most respected and proven tuners in the Mercedes tuning industry like RaceIQ and Eurocharged. We have tunes available for most all makes and models AMG or not. Whether you’re looking to make more power in your AMG or if you’re just looking to increase the fuel economy of your Mercedes. We have ECU tunes available, custom tailored for your car and specific engine modifications. Contact our team today for more info on the ECU tunes we have available for your car.
